Summary and Scene Wireframes
Version 1 (July 22) Players are confronted by a voice that speaks to them through an artifact, trying to convince them to join the nation's fight in Europe during the First World War. They select an identity then persevere through initial rejection based on health and fitness. Some identities are rejected outright for racial or cultural reasons. The player is outfitted, goes through basic training and ultimately leaves town on a troop train. The episode ends when artifact transforms into a the game's guiding character/narrator. Storyline Changes
|
3 Main Mechanics: Identity Selection: Reject/Accept Players choose an identity based on culture or race. They are either accepted or rejected. Game facts are introduced at this point to provide just-in-time information to provide context for events in the story. This will continue throughout all 4 episodes. Minimal content is provided as a means to generate curiosity on the topics. In this instance, information on rejection rationale, as well as when and how initially rejected volunteers were able to enlist after 1914 will be provided. Physical Examination Ordering Puzzle Players are given vision, hearing and dental tests. They must select the correct answer from 3 or so options for each, and enter them in the correct order to advance. They must re-start from the first test if any error is made in the whole sequence. For example in the vision test, player will view an eye chart where letters blur a successively lower rows (simulating weak vision). Marching Challenge (Random Object Generation) Players learn proper marching technique from a vintage 1914 British Army manual. They must march to a cadence (audio file) towards game objects that pop-up randomly (simulating direction change decisions of seargents). They have to collect a certain number of objects or continue marching until they are successful. Objects can only be collected if they are marching at the correct speed. |
